Metal Detecting Guide!

A pulsing current is applied to the coil, which then induces a magnetic
field shown in blue. When the magnetic field of the coil moves across
metal, such as the coin in this illustration, the field induces electric
currents (called eddy currents) in the coin. The eddy currents induce
their own magnetic field, shown in red, which generates an opposite
current in the coil, which induces a signal indicating the presence of
metal. There are certain features needed for certain places the device is
going to be used for. If you intend to use it on the beach, the terrain
wont be that rigorous. But you are going to need waterproof protection.

There are many different kinds and styles of metal detectors - gold
detectors, coin and jewel detectors, beach-hunting detectors,
underwater metal detectors, handheld and walk through metal detectors

Metal detectors are electronic devices that are used to find traces of
metal usually from the ground, a person, or cargo. This metal could be
anything from discarded pieces of aluminum to buried treasures. These
devices can penetrate sand, soil, wood and other non-metallic substances.

Metal Detecting Video

Metal detection is something that has been around for more than a
century. The technology used in making the detecting device has various
applications, which has prompted the development of lighter, smaller and
more powerful models. As a result, the number of treasure hunters has
risen regardless of whether is done for fun or for pleasure. There are
websites and books that can teach a newbie about metal detection. If
the individual doesn’t have the time to read the fine print, there are also
volumes of this topic found in video.

Metal detecting videos can’t be found in the local store. These have to
be special ordered. It is best to look in the magazine or on the Internet
to be able to purchase a copy. The content could last from 30 minutes to
an hour showing the basics of using a metal detector.

The beginning will usually talk about the origin of metal detecting.
Though the history may be quite trivial, it will be amazing to know that
this was also used in forensic medicine some time in the 19th century
even if the technology then was primitive at best. For walking speed,
remember the paint rollerr analogy above. As long as you are painting the
entire surface of the ground and not missing any spots, you are not
walking too quickly. However, if you find that your imaginary paint is
missing areas, you need to slow down your pace.

As stated earlier, metal detectors could really be expensive. You can cut
on cost if you cut on features. Try to look for the best bargain by
enumerating the features you are going to need against the one that you
can leave off.

A flower garden seen from the kitchen window would have been a good
place for the lady of the house to bury a cache of money. The man of
the house would have buried a cache of money someplace that could be
seen from the bedroom window.

The basic metal detectors are easy to get used to, with less features and
buttons. Find out more about bounty hunter metal detector today! Any
place there is construction and the ground is being cleared, that is a great
place to start treasure hunting. Successfull treasure hunting starts with
having the right metal detector. But which type of metal detector should
you get? Complete info on metal detectors and treasure hunting at
detect-metal.info. Most detectors will perform as promised by the
Manufacturers. However, different brands of detectors will have various
characteristics and features. Some detectors may require different swing
speeds and some may weigh more than others. Yet another feature to
consider (for ease of travelling and packing) is the number of sections that
the detector will separate into.

The large coil can be found in the search coil of the detector while the
small coil is found on the System Control Pack. The coils are connected to
an oscillator which produces pulses of current. The pulse passes through
the coils in order to generate radio waves.

The second part will brief the viewer about the metal detector. Though
these may come in various models, their function is still the same, which is
detecting coins, jewelry and other metallic artifacts that are buried in the
ground. The third part will explain in detail each part of this device. The
person will notice that each section is important and plays a vital role in
distinguishing whether the object could be something of value or this is
just garbage.

The next portion on the video will explain the different technologies used
in the metal detector. Some use a low frequency; others detect through
a pulse indicator and still others with beat frequency oscillation. Various
models use one or a variety of the three which determines how
expensive the device may be. The video will also show and teach the
person how to scan in a certain area. The improper use of this device
could make the user skip over something giving someone else the
opportunity to find it later on.

If one section was not well understood, the individual can just rewind or
go to the menu and play that part again. This will give the person enough
time to absorb the material in the video and put the lessons learned into
practice. As more and more contemporary children seem to have major
family problems compared to years past, it is absolutely critical that both
you and your team thoroughly know mental health basics. Since studies
emphasize that seeing and helping distressed youth are the primary ways
to prevent school shootings, that’s another reason that non-mental
health youth professionals like educators must upgrade their skills right
away. Schools everywhere are using metal detectors to help filter out
violence. The metal detectors can very easily (for this is why they are
used) detect a knife or gun. Police stations and Airports use them as well.
Some users put a rubber band around the knobs to keep them from
moving or becoming loose. You should buy a metal detector that is light
weight. This is important when you are detecting things on a riverbank or
body of water. Most metal detector companies also offer supplementary
services like designing, material sourcing, prototyping, short run
manufacturing, upgrading or re-designing, assembly services and specialty
packaging.

Variations Of Conservatory Sunroom

Victorian. Gazebo. Georgian and Edwardian are some of the conservatory sunroom styles. You can select from a range of wood types to build your sunroom including oak. maple. cedar. mahogany. and fir. They provide maximum insulation thereby increasing energy efficiency. The glass room controls the air temperature inside even during extreme climatic conditions. These patio room enclosures are best suited for regions with a breathtaking view by allowing maximum space for viewing the landscape. The English-Style conservatories are well known for their classic design and elegant look and feel. You can select from a range of decorative Victorian sunroom conservatories to the magnificent Georgian structures.

Features of Sunroom Conservatories

The conservatories have their respective architectural plan. They are provided with beautiful windows of various frames. You can also select from a range of stained glass to add a personalized touch to the conservatory. The doors and windows can be provided with multipoint lock facility for added security. Instead of the glass if you use polycarbonate multi-ply for the roof. you will get increased insulation. They only allow the soft light to diffuse inside the room. The walls have multiple chambers and the PVC used to make the walls of the sunroom is reinforced with metals to provide more strength to the structure. This feature also makes the conservatories more durable. You can derive greater ventilation by placing the turn and tilt windows. In times of unruly weather conditions. these windows can be tilted in such an angle that they provide the necessary ventilation with allowing the adverse weather to affect indoor atmosphere. They can also be opened to 90? angle. giving you unrestricted view of outside environment.

Conservatory Design and Style

The conservatories can be placed according to a number of designs and styles. Some of the common styles and designs include Victorian conservatory. Georgian conservatory. Edwardian conservatory. Mediterranean conservatory and Pavilion conservatory. The Victorian models sometimes have aluminum exterior and interior finish. They are provided with interlocked window and door sashes with thermally broken panels. You can select a number of systems for your doors and windows from fixed to dual. removable screens to sliding ones. child secured handles to double locking. In place of aluminum. you can also have wood interiors. They can have aluminum exteriors with laminated wooden beams and thermally broken panels. The windows can have various attachments including double security lock. awnings. grills. and casement windows. You can place French doors or even single swing and sliding doors. You can even have the Victorian conservatories clad with vinyl. They have low maintenance cost and the construction is energy efficient. They are available with the French swing doors or the sliding doors with glazed roof panels. The Double Victorian style is a hybrid variation with Victorian arcs and Edwardian columns.

The Edwardian conservatories are usually built with a corner facet of 45?. They have a typical vaulted ceiling that is often made up of stained glass. They usually run parallel to the house and are best suited for conventional houses. The Georgian conservatory provides you with spacious rooms made of glass that are economical and are energy efficient. They are provided with insulated roofing and thermally broken panels with interlocked window and door sashes. They have quad doors or swinging French doors with removable screens and have child proof door knobs with double locking system.

Extending The Room With Conservatories

You rooms can be extended to form the conservatory patio rooms. porches. full glass rooms and the three or four season sunrooms. The patios allow the fresh air to enter and restrict insects and unwanted intruder from entering inside. But most of the time. using this room is done only in summer or when the chill is not there in the air. You can build the sunroom on an existing structure or just convert a room into a sunroom depending on your necessity. Some of the conservatory sunrooms make use of the heating and cooling system to the house to regulate the room temperature of the glass enclosed area. If this facility is not provided. you can easily install the system in the conservatory. The conservatories facing the North require fewer blinds as they are the coldest. On the contrary. the South facing ones are really warm and require constant ventilation in the form of open windows. vents on roofs and tinted roof. The West facing conservatories gets the benefit of the evening light of the sun while the East facing one gets the morning sun and is best suited as a breakfast room. The conservatories sure add charm to family relationships by bringing all the family members together in the morning and in the evening. to share the outdoor environment and enjoy the beauty of surrounding landscape. If well planned. they become the ideal place to relax and indulge in your favorite pastime.

Why We Don’t Write Our Books

In the ten years that Ive taught people how to get on with their books, Ive noticed a phenomenon that Ill call Authors Block. Would-be writers can, indeed, sit down and work when pressed to it. The problem is that theyre not so sure they want the pressure of being an author. But they do want to. But they dont. And so on.

Ah, the agony of getting on with your book.

Well, Im here to diffuse that situation with a list of what I think are the key reasons we dont immediately set down to write. Perhaps this will help the next time you find yourself polishing doorknobs instead of sitting down to write.

 We lie to ourselves about why we cant write the book. We think our stalling is about lack of time, or too much pressure at work, or not enough solitude in the evening. But guess what? Chances are a deeper, darker reason may be at play, like Im not supposed to be bigger than Mom or What if this thing really takes off?

 We fear the impact our book could have. Sometimes when I coach writers in my self-help authors crash course, Ill ask them whats impeding progress. And after some probing, it will come out that theyre afraid of the big exposure a book can have if it takes off. Im here to assure you that should that happen, (and chances are your book will not unleash wild mobs of millions) you will be able to handle it. How do I know? On that deep level where psyche meets karma, you wont create a reader more than youre ready to receive.

 We think our book doesnt matter, so why bother? One writer I know put this so succinctly: Ive tried getting up at 5AM to write, and staying up late, and leaving my home, but none of it works. I have this tired feeling that none of its going to amount to a hill of beans. In fact, writing and publication can be an entirely self-determined activity these days. If the publishing pundits dont go for your book, theres always self-publishing and e-books on your website. In other words, your book does matter, and you really have no excuse. (Acid test: if the book keeps on patiently urging you to sit down and write it for months and even years, chances are youd better do it.)

 We think we dont know how to write a book. Guess what? Neither does any other first time writer. And that may be a wonderful thing because you dont com in with a carload of expectations and demands from your process. Youre just open, like well, a nice blank book. All you really need is your intuition, and the will to write your book as honestly as you can.

 We have no support. You need someone in your corner, cheering you on, to get through the long and somewhat tiring process of birthing a book. Thats why my Self-Help Authors Crash Course is not an e-book (believe me, it would be easier!) but a 12-week teleclass series. Because these writers need a place to show up and be accountable for their progress. They need someone to keep saying, Yes, you really can do this. Thats how tricky and difficult our minds are when it comes to big challenges.

 Were afraid well run out of material. There isnt a writer out there who hasnt had this fear. And Im here to say that if you just stay loose and open, and willing to receive the ideas, they will show up. All you have to do is commit really sit down, and begin to bring that book into being and the work will magically appear. Sometimes it wont flow that easily, and sometimes it will scare you with its speed and power. But it will, indeed, show up.

 We think Who am I to write a book? And yet, you are the perfect person to write your book, because youre the one chosen to receive this material. (You dont have to be spiritually inclined to believe this.) I personally believe that books are given to us when were ready to receive them and when we do, our lives are changed by that process.

 We fear uncomfortable moments. Ah, but thats the most exciting thing about writing your book. You will be given challenges and lessons that just seem untenable along the way. And if youre committed enough, youll rise above them and so become stronger in the process. This is especially true for self-help books: we write what we need to learn.

Im here to urge you to just get on with your book. Not only do you deserve it so do we.

The 3 things you need to do to have a successful online business

The P O P Method of Success
by Natalie Williams
http://www.SmallHostingPlans.com

There are 3 main things you need to do in order to be successful with an online business.

Prepare, Obtain & Promote

Prepare
You need to prepare and establish a website. This includes a domain name, hosting account, website pages , a shopping cart and a merchant account.
When you sign up with Small Hosting Plans, you receive a domain name for 2 years, website template, and a shopping cart that is already enabled to accept PayPal as your merchant account and Checks. You are also able to upgrade the cart if you would like to use any one of over 100 other merchant accounts that are available.

Obtain
You need to obtain products to sell on your site. There are 5 main ways that people and businesses acquire products that are sold on their websites. On my own websites, I do a mixture of all of the below.
Buy items in bulk at wholesale prices and then resell for a profit.

Cons: Usually the setbacks for this method are that a) people with small home-based businesses do not have the capital required to make large enough purchases to make a high profit and b) there is not space enough to store these large purchases in a person’s home or small office.

Solution: The solution to this can be found in the “Light Bulk Wholesale Directory” found at http://www.successfulwahm.com/lbd/light-bulk.asp
This directory is filled with companies who will sell you smaller bulk, still at a wholesale price. This allows for you to make a profit and have room for the items in your home or office before they sell.

Also, this same company offers the Market Research Wizard which is simply an amazing tool to use when deciding if a particular product will sell or not online. They offer a free trail version, so I urge you to test it out.
Market Research Wizard can be found here:
http://www.successfulwahm.com/lbd/marketwizard.asp

Use Dropshippers to fill their website with products.
Dropshippers are companies who will allow you to sell their products on your site and when a product sells, the customer pays you and you in turn place the order with the dropshipper and they ship the items directly to your customer. You can read more about dropshippers on the Dropshipping 101 website here: http://www.dropshipping101.com

Cons: People claiming to be dropshippers saturate the Internet offering to make you rich. These people are actually middlemen who will take your order and place it with the real dropshipper, keeping a portion of the money for themselves. These middlemen cut into your profits. One of the easiest ways to determine if they are a middleman is if they do not ask you for your Sales Tax Certificate. True wholesalers are required to obtain a resell permit from you before they can sell to you.

Solution: The solution to this can be found in the “Dropship Source Directory” found here: http://www.successfulwahm.com/lbd/dropshipping.asp
This directory is filled with companies that will dropship, they require a tax certificate and will not charge you a fee for joining. The company that created this directory is very reputable, backed by the BBB Reliability Program and run by an honest group located in Orlando, Florida.
Also, be sure to get your Sales Tax Certificate. You can have the research for your business licenses completed for you here (http://www.newonlinebusiness.com/newonlinebusiness/business_licenses.asp) or do it all yourself with a little help in the right direction here (http://www.newonlinebusiness.com/newonlinebusiness/BusinessLicenses/General_Info.htm)

Join Affiliate Programs and place their products on your site

You can join the Affiliate Program of just about any company you can find online and promote the sales of their products. When you join the affiliate program, you are given a special link to their website that you place on your own site. When your website visitors click on these links, they are transported to the other companies website where they are free to purchase products. You make a commission on all sales. The difference between affiliate programs and using dropshippers is that with affiliate programs, you do not make the sale, collect the money, pack or ship anything. The main company handles everything. All you do is put the affiliate link on your site. With dropshippers, you sell the item, collect the money from the customer, put the order in with the dropshipper and then track to make sure the customer receives the item.

Cons: The only downside I’ve found to affiliate programs is that you need to occasionally check the links to make sure they still work. Sometimes a company will discontinue their program without informing the affiliates and you are left with dead links on your website. However, this is so few and far between that it shouldn’t even be listed as a con.

Solution: Here is a nifty tool that will check for dead links in any web page you enter.
http://www.stickysauce.com/cgi-local/linkcheck/linkcheck.pl

Create and Sell your own physical products

The Internet has made it easy for anyone to create and sell their own products. Are you a woodsman who loves to make birdhouses? Can you make Barbie clothes? I believe everyone has something creative inside of them.

Cons: You are one person. You will be limited to your physical capabilities and time-constraints of each day.

Solution: Well, I think they are close to successful human cloning =)

Create and Sell your own digital products

Everyone and their brother is selling eBooks with resell rights on the Internet these days.

There is one eBook that they are NOT selling and NEVER will sell?

Which one?? The one that YOU create.

People selling 10,000 eBooks for $9.95 on eBay are not striking it rich. The ones with their own website, creating the products themselves are.
Marlon Sanders, Yanik Silver, Rosalind Gardner to name a few. These people discovered early on the right way to own a business. The next time you see a digital product and you think about buying it, think instead how you could create it yourself. (Or one darn close to it). If you are like most people, you think you have nothing to write about or don’t have the skills for creating. Wrong! I know a woman who was a DJ for her young adult life, but then relied on her wealthy husband to take care of her for many years. She has NO business experience. The time came when suddenly she had to make it on her own. She thought ‘What am I going to do with no other skills but DJ’ing?”. She wrote an eBook about DJ’ing, setting up for parties, the best lists of music to play at certain gigs, etc. She’s not a millionaire, but she’s done very well for herself.

Cons: You probably still don’t believe you can do it so you will brush this topic off.

Solution: I am going to GIVE YOU a bonus right here and now that will help you achieve the above. It’s called the Extreme eBook Creations package. It contains some eBooks you need to read, plus there is an eBook Creator Program yours for free. You can collect your bonus here.
http://www.cidicon.com/mydigitalproducts/ebookcreator/retrieve-products.htm

Promote
Now that you have your site all ready, millions of people will visit and you’ll be rich overnight. Wrong again. If you build it, they will NOT come. In fact, not only will they not come, it sometimes seems like they go out of there way to stay away. Getting people to your website can be the most stressful, time-consuming, money-eating part of owning a website. But it doesn’t have to break you. There are two ways to get people to your site. 1) Pay a load of money out to blast announcements all over the place 2) Spend the time to promote it yourself in free and almost-free ways. It always amazes me that someone will pay $10,000 to have a website built for them when they can have one made for so much less (or make it themselves) and then spend that money on the advertising. That is where your budget should be. Now I am not saying skimp and have a terrible site made. There IS a happy medium where you can have a professional, functional website without breaking the bank.
So what are these free and almost-free ways to promote?

Post on message boards. There is this one particular message board I am on all the time. I just answer questions and use my website link in my signature line and you wouldn’t believe how much business I get from doing that.
I posted a message almost a year ago with my opinion on a particular online program that is popular and I STILL get emails to this day asking me more and they usually end up buying something from me.
Search on Google (http://www.google.com) for Message Boards along the topic of your website. For instance, if my website is about helping people work from home, I will look for message boards that have to do with “work from home moms”.

Become an eBay seller. It doesn’t matter what you sell on eBay, you can use your listings as a traffic driving tool. What you do is create a custom ‘About Me’ page on the eBay account. They give this page for free with every account. Then in every listing, place big links getting people to visit your ‘About Me’ page which will contain links to your website(s). My server logs show that the largest amount of traffic I receive to my website is through my ‘About Me’ page. If there is a month when I post just a few auctions, then I can guarantee you my websites sales are way down.

Look for websites and newsletters that compliment your website and offer to trade links or articles.
Browse Newsletters here:
http://pertinent.com/newsletters/

Write articles yourself and submit them to the appropriate websites. These websites offer articles written by members that visitors can read and more importantly, they can place these articles on their own website and newsletters which is circulated throughout the web. So your article (with your name and web address) is seen by thousands.
Browse Articles and Submit your own here:
http://www.goarticles.com

Write eBooks and do the same as above.
Here is a search on Google for “Submit Your eBook”.
http://www.google.com/search?num=100&hl=en&lr=lang_en&ie=UTF-8&newwindow=1&safe=active&q=%22submit+your+eBook
Go through the websites and submit your free eBook everywhere that will take it.
Freebie mentioned above: Extreme eBook Creations
http://www.cidicon.com/mydigitalproducts/ebookcreator/retrieve-products.htm

Offer freebies on your site in exchange for the persons name and email address. It’s very important to get a subscriber list going. You don’t want to keep trying to get new customers everyday forever. If you come out with a new product, you will have your current customers to offer the product to first. What freebies should you offer? An eBook, a report, really anything that may be of interest to the types of visitors you receive.

Google AdWords. You apply for an account and then create little ads that appear to the right of the Google Search results and on other people’s websites that use the keywords you choose. You determine how much you will pay per click and what your monthly budget will be so you are always in control of how much money you are spending on this advertising.
Google AdWords
http://www.google.com/adwords

There are a few more things you can do to generate income from your websites.
Google Ad Sense. You apply for an account and if they accept you (they DO turn people down), you can place some code on your website so that Google Ads will appear on your site. When your website visitors click these ads, you get money for every click. Due to the terms of agreement for their program, I cannot discuss how much I make from their ads, but I will tell you it’s more than I thought I would and I am pleasantly surprised and happy every day.
Google AdSense
https://www.google.com/adsense

Place ads in your local newspaper about your product with your website address

Get free business cards from Vista Print and leave them around town. I place one of these in every single package I ship out for things I sell on eBay.
If you’re really in shape and have the stamina, create advertising doorknob hangers on your computer and walk around, hanging them on doorknobs.
http://www.aimforlove.com/shp/doorknob_hanger_example.htm

What is your site about? What is your product? You could probably convince stores to let you leave brochures or flyers about. For example, I began a secretarial service many years ago. I was allowed to leave my brochures on the counter of a computer repair shop. I received many customers this way and to this very day, I still have 2 great clients for who I perform secretarial duties from my home. The income from those 2 clients alone is enough to make me happy to stay home.

The End

Natalie Williams is a full time work from home mom that centers her business around helping other people, especially moms, work from home successfully and without being scammed.
Her main websites can be found at http://www.SmallHostingPlans.com and http://www.GettingStartedOnline.com
nwilliams@cidicon.com
by Natalie Williams
http://www.SmallHostingPlans.com

Saving Money with Kitchen Cabinet Refacing

Want to remodel your kitchen but think I would be to costly? Then consider kitchen cabinet refacing.
The cost of kitchen cabinet refacing is considerably less than the cost of completely gutting your kitchen and in a much shorter time period.

Kitchen cabinet refacing can be a terrific option to consider if you want a whole new look to your kitchen without breaking your budget. Kitchen cabinet refacing usually includes covering the exterior surface of your existing cabinets with a new laminate. The old doors and drawer fronts are then replaced with new custom-made doors and drawer fronts. The types of cabinet front choices are laminate and solid wood.

Most homeowners intend to keep the layout of their kitchen the same particularly if the kitchen is well designed, well built and functional. So there is really no reason to tear the cabinets out. A new kitchen project can leave your kitchen unusable for a long as six weeks.

Kitchen cabinet refacing can range from simply repainting existing cabinets and drawer fronts and updating hardware to stripping cabinet doors and applying veneer or other decorative elements. Refacing can also include completely replacing cabinet doors in a new style using new materials.

By remodeling a kitchen you should expect to see a return on your initial investment of from 75 to 130 percent. You should find that depending on how old they are the existing cabinets are often of better quality construction than those made by today’s standards. That is especially true or the quality sturdier cabinets you will find in vintage homes.

You can save a substantial amount by updating your existing cabinets since they are already installed, leveled, finished, and operational.

By going with a kitchen cabinet refacing instead of replacing the cabinetry you will actually be getting all the advantages of a major custom remodeling job at a much more affordable price.

Since new kitchen cabinetry can be expensive, kitchen cabinet refacing can be a viable alternative since it can save you anywhere from 33-60% off the cost of putting in new kitchen cabinets. The cost of kitchen cabinet refacing will depend on the number of cabinets, the cabinet veneer and the hardware choices (hinges door knobs, etc.). The average cost of kitchen cabinet refacing can run about $7,500.

Some other advantage of kitchen cabinet refacing includes: the work can be done in a very short time (a day or two). It is a more affordable and faster way of achieving a new fresh look for your kitchen than a complete remodeling job. Provides the kitchen with a whole new and fresh appearance. It also increases the home’s value.

Also with new kitchen cabinet hardware added to your kitchen cabinet refacing job will the newly refaced cupboards look like brand new custom built cabinets including better functionality with the intallation of roll-out shelves, better drawer slides and storage.

In most kitchens the cabinetry provides the most visible area and therefore greatly influences the style and design of the kitchen. If the cabinets are dark the kitchen will feel darker. If the cabinets are scuffed and old looking this will make the kitchen look older and outdated. Kitchen cabinet refacing can do a lot to improve the look of the kitchen. Since only the outside surface of the cabinets are replaced the work can be done in less time and at considerably less expense.

Reading the Lines

Early cave woman wasn’t content with her cave man’s rendition of “home” — dark, blank walls that provided no ambience whatsoever. So, one day, when he grunted, she grunted back and soon there were linear drawings adorning their cave. These sketches were not exactly what she had in mind to brighten up their lives (animals and spears staring at her as she did her daily dirt floor tamping down), but they made her cave man happy. They gave him and his buddies the opportunity, whenever they got together, to retell of their great hunts and narrow escapes. Writing and story telling without an alphabet.

Boggles the Mind

How many stories, poems, articles and essays have been written since then using the alphabets of the world? My mind misfires to even try and imagine the number. Stories have been published in small, struggling-for-recognition publications, or sent out but returned as rejections, never to surface again. Poems have been written, carefully releasing emotions kept deep within the heart and soul, but never shown to anyone, as if the words were too close to that heart and soul to allow them to be completely released. And rant opinions have been penned, complaining that a company’s product failed to live up the its advertisment when two of its knobs fell off and the one that did remain wouldn’t turn. And then there are the countless essays and articles, researched and filed away in a cabinet, never to see the light of day again. How many pieces have been written throughout the course of history? It falls into the category of questions like, “How many tears have been shed or how many smiles have been formed. There’s no way of knowing.

A WORTHWHILE SKILL

Many, many written pieces, however, HAVE been accounted for and kept track of, much to the delight of readers everywhere. Reading is a joy and a pleasurable addiction for a great number of people. I admire these people — those who can enthusiastically call themselves “readers”, those who can curl up in a chair or stretch out on a sofa and become so engrossed in a piece of writing that they don’t emerge from their reading until several chapters later or the short story’s ending. I admire them because I’m not a reader. I’ve always disliked the task and never acquired the skill. I do read though…anything and everything…in bits and pieces…kind of like a TV channel-surfer clicking from one program to the next. Short attention span? Sometimes. Speed reader? Hardly. I’m simply not a reader. That’s not to say I haven’t enjoyed reading at times. I have. It just doesn’t come naturally to me.

KICKING IT UP A NOTCH

Reading well is a skill. Reading well, comprehending what was read and being able to dissect it in order to find its strengths and weaknesses is an art. Reading well and being able to connect with the essence of a piece and then express that feeling and connection to its writer is an art. This art comes naturally to some, but has to be learned by others. I’m in that “others” grouping.

I’ve recently learned that a reader is incomplete until they’ve at least tried their hand at writing and a writer is incomplete if they’re not reading.

But, I’m not sure yet if I’m up to tackling the “Map of the World” by Jane Hamilton or the “Ender’s Game” by Orson Scott Card (both books have been on a desk, patiently waiting for my attention). And I’m not sure if I can return and attempt finishing “The Idiot” by Fyodor Dostoeyevsky yet. I’ve begun reading that book so many times and left it mid-read, that I’m certain the main character, Myshkin, feels as if he’s been experiencing the same phenomenom as Bill Murray in “Ground Hog Day”. Poor guy! Maybe someday.

In the meantime, though, perhaps those of us who shy away from reading will continually push the word and page limits until one day we can retell some of the great stories we’ve visited. Or recite a few lines from some of the poems we happen to have discovered. It’s more than likely going to be worth the effort. Besides, we have to make that cave woman proud!
Compiled by Hugo Hotagen, DDD (Duke of Doorknobs & Doghouses), a loyal lapdog-in-training apprenticing with the affable, agnostic and all-round air-headed Court of the Quipping Queen.

A quirky, quizzical and sometimes questionable quotidian quotation, in honor of the “Year of the Dog”, follows herewith:

“The dog is a yes-animal, very popular with people who can’t afford to keep a yes-man.” - Robertson Davies (Canadian humorist).

Planning To Get New Drawer Pulls

You have just got some new furniture made in your house or have renovated the old one. Obviously there are drawers and cabinets in it. Now, without a knob you possible can’t open the drawers. You need some knobs and these knobs are called drawer pulls. They help you to pull open the drawer. There are various types of pulls available in the market. You can put drawer pulls to multiple uses. If you visit some older homes, you will find that the same drawer pulls are being used as deco and cabinet drawer pulls. Five or six decades ago, most homes used these pulls on kitchen cabinet drawers and cabinet doors, and in other rooms too on inbuilt cabinets.

There are antique drawer pulls which are of antique styles of handles and knobs. They remind you of olden days when the artistic craft of elegance was at its zenith. It may be a knob, handle, bin pull or hood. They are available in a wide range of finishes and styles and can be made of acrylic or glass, brass, porcelain, iron, nickel or chrome, ceramic, or other materials.

There are crystal and glass pulls for the discerning customer. The difference between crystal and glass is quite perceptible - crystal is glass with a higher lead content, which makes it heavier, reduces bubbles, and improves light refraction and clarity. Crystal pulls frequently have “cut” edges, which make it crisper in shape, while glass pulls have a softer-edged appearance and texture. There are many colors to choose from.

Then, there are pulls made of brass and oak also. You can get exclusive products in six usual finishes (lacquered brass, un-lacquered brass, oil-rubbed bronze, burnished antique brass, brushed nickel, and polished nickel).

There are figural antique pulls that are highly decorative. They have designs of the head of a dragon, lion, serpent, angel, or any other figurines. There may be scrolled patterns which extend to form the handle. These types of pulls attract the children very much.

It is easy to find a pull which truly matches with your period piece of furniture. It is an easy task. However, the task of choosing among so many attractive designs is quite a hard one. But you can also use antique drawer pulls to put a touch of elegant traditionalism to ultramodern cabinetry or furniture. New pulls will bring about a radical change in the appearance of a modern-day bedroom set. They are also a great way to give your kitchen cabinets a new look.

Thus, there is a huge variety to choose the one you find most appealing. There is one for everyone.

Shopping For Keyboards

Keyboard is one of the important musical instruments that a musician desires to buy first. There are varieties of keyboards available in the market with various features and functions. All these musical keyboards fall under categories such as MIDI controllers, digital pianos, arrangers, portables, synthesizers, work stations and organs. Each type of keyboard caters different needs and one need to know his exact requirements thoroughly before selecting the type of keyboard.

MIDI controller keyboards come with different varied number of keys like 25 and 88. They also include response factors such as velocity sensitive, weighted and aftertouch. Some of the MIDI controllers are equipped with control surfaces, drum pads, combination controllers, wind controllers, sliders, and knobs.

There are two broad categories of Digital Pianos like Console Pianos that are used at home and portable stage pianos usable for stage performance. Most of the features are same in both varieties and changes are only in their designs and sizes. The essential factors one has to look while buying digital pianos are key responsiveness, sound quality and their amplifier and speaker features. These factors highly influence the quality of music generated by them.

Arranger is a musical keyboard which is very useful for music directors and song writers. These keyboards are fitted with professional sound engines and a variety of compositional tools making the song writing easier. Portables are similar to arranges but meant for beginners. They are equipped with learning functions to facilitate the newly starters to acquire music. Arranges and portables can be connected with personal computers using USB and other types of connectivity in order to upload and download songs and related software.

Synthesizers are another type of musical keyboards that produce sound. Most of the present models use pre-recorded sounds for creating music where as the analog synthesizers produce music manipulating electrical signals. Sample based synthesizers are capable of producing variety of other musical instruments like organ, strings, piano, etc.

Workstations are basically arrangers with more enhanced features needed for song recording. These keyboards are fitted with hard disk drives, multi-track recording devices, and many more useful features that help the professional composers to produce high quality music.

Organ is basically a musical keyboard fitted with only an organ sound engine targeting the dedicated organ players. Unlike traditional analog models, present organs use digital models with features like pitch bend, modulation, and sound effects. This gives optimum desired results.
